Granular → Broad Analysis
Today, we’re going to practice pulling specific granular elements of the evidence in order to discuss the author's choice and how that works to create meaning. Here’s what you need to do:
Find Evidence that has Granular Elements
You don't want evidence that just tells us what you're arguing. Find evidence that allows you to show us how the idea is conveyed.
What are the parts of the evidence that best connect to your thesis?
Explain how the granular part(s) of the evidence work to create meaning
In discussing how it works to create meaning you should attempt to hit on the following things, preferably in this order so that you are moving from a more granular focus to broader connections:
Authorial Choice - What is the author doing in their writing?
Hint: Authorial Choices = Literary Devices
Meaning - How does this create meaning in connection to your thesis?
End by broadly summarizing once again the link between your analysis and your thesis
