Google Docs: Tips and Tricks
Alright, below are a few keyboard shortcuts I use while working on Google Docs, as well as some tools you can use to help your writing and it's clarity without using something like Grammarly.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
In order to use these, you have to highlight the text you want to impact.
- Highlight – Shift + Arrow Keys (< or >)
- Highlight All Text – Cmd. + A
- Copy – Cmd. + C
- Paste – Cmd. + V
- Cut – Cmd. + X
- Undo – Cmd. + Z
- Bold – Cmd. + B
- Italicize – Cmd. + I
- Underline – Cmd. + U
(On a PC, swap Cmd. for Ctrl.)
Google Docs Tools:
- Dictionary: If you feel like you're using the same word too much in your work, use this tool to find synonyms for a word.
- Route #1 – Click on the Word > Tools > Dictionary
- Route #2 – Highlight Word > Right Click > View More Actions > Define
- Spelling and Grammar: Does what it says – checks your spelling and grammar – and it's not Grammarly. As a caveat, when you use this tool, don't just blindly click through and make the changes they suggest. Read what they're suggesting to see if it makes sense.
- Route – Tools > Spelling and Grammar > Spelling and Grammar Check
